Tour Through Blogland with Top Notch Mom

Good Morning,

I’m so excited to be a part of the Tour Through Blogland. Kristi from Making it in the Mountains was kind enough to invite me to be a part of this awesome project. Kristi is a new bloggy friend of mine and someone whose DIY projects inspire me to get out of my design rut and get to work on creating personal pieces for my home. Check out some of my favorite DIY projects she’s created:

Top Notch Mom is not just a blog for moms, but all those that share the same passion for food, entertainment and family as I do! This blog features simple and easy recipes, food & product reviews, photography and my personal experiences as a new mom to my adorable two year old son Matthew.

 Welcome to our home…come inside!

{Side Note: This photo is over a year old, but the only one I could find of us in front of our home}

We built a custom home two years ago. As exciting as that was for us it’s been one project after another making this blank canvas feel like home.

When we first moved in we made the front room that you walk through the front door to a formal living room. We hardly used the space except for the holidays so we decided to turn it into Matthew’s playroom. This moved his toys out of the living room and gave him his own space to play.

The TNM Kitchen is one of my favorite places in the house. I have a quote above the kitchen table that says “The Best Memories are made while gathered around the kitchen table”.

The living room was a really fun space to decorate. We found most of our furniture at Ikea which is super affordable for first time home buyers. I’ve love making each shelf so personalized!

We are a photo taking family as much as that drives my husband crazy hahaha, I have friends that are amazing photographers and love that they have captured some of the best memories. I especially love walking up the stairs and seeing Matthew’s smiling face.

Matthew turned 2 in March and we moved him into a big boy bed and a completely different room. It was a big adjustment, but I knew it was better to do it at 2 then 4. We wanted to keep his old room a nursery for when we eventually have baby #2. It took him a good month or so to adjust, but now he loves it and sleeps really well in his big boy bed. Our bedroom is still a “blank canvas”. I have so many ideas for it yet so little time to do them. We did recently hang up photos behind our bed from a photo session we did with the talented photographer Jen Snyder. You can find my Passionate Mom Project interview here.

I do love my little space, my makeup vanity. You can find a post I did about it here.

Last but not least I wanted to share my office, my creative space. I spend a lot of time in here and wanted to make it “me” as much as possible. I love love love the ikea storage behind my desk, perfect place for all of my food photography props and photo albums I hope to finish before Matthew’s in college 😉

Another project I’m a part of is this beauty blog Beautiful Fate which I co-created with my best friend Kelsi. We share tips, tutorials, beauty reviews etc. Learn more about Beautiful Fate here.

Every Wednesday at 8:30PM EST you can find this awesome link party, Cook it! Craft it! Share it! happening on my blog.

How does my work differ from others of it’s genre?

This is a tough question, we are all similar and different. I’m surrounded by so many talented food bloggers on a daily basis. The one thing that sets me apart from others is that my focus is 100%  on simple and easy recipes that can be made in 30 minutes or less. Since becoming a mother, my goal is to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with my son while still creating delicious and nutritious recipes.

Why do I write/create what I do?

Never in a million years did I think I’d become a blogger. After I had my son Matthew I was inspired to share my baking/cooking recipes with others as well as my experiences as a new mom.

How does my writing/creating process work?

I try to keep myself on a schedule. This can be extremely hard with a 2 1/2 year old running around. The most important thing for me is to keep an organized work space. I also try really hard to plan what needs to be done during Matthew’s nap time which means a lot of time I racing against the clock since his nap time can go anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours. Then I spend at least 3 of my evenings a week executing my to-do list. Some weeks go better then others to say the least.

Now I’d like to introduce you to some other fabulous bloggers:

Meet Susan, The Foodette:

  1. SO MUCH fun getting to know you better Doree! I am SO excited about your e-book! I’ve been decorating cakes and cupcakes for a few years now, but still struggle with the baking side of things – I can’t wait to have a stash of tried and true recipes!!! Totally jealous of your work space! We turned our front room into a play space for C too, though my desk still lives tucked into the corner, which definitely isn’t ideal! I’d love a neat, organized and pretty office like yours!!! Thank you SO much for taking part Doree! LOVED getting a look behind the scenes and into your {gorgeous} home!!!
